Do you travel to the USA often? We travel to the USA a few times a year and always use our NEXUS cards. They allow us to cross the border by land, sea, and air much more quickly. We also use the automated kiosks upon arrival to expedite our return to Canada.
Application Process
Consider applying for a Nexus card if you plan to travel by land, sea or air to expedite border crossings to and from the USA. Here’s the link to get your application started if you are Canadian: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/services/travel-voyage/prog/nexus/nexus-1-eng.html
We applied for our Nexus cards in 2019 because our travel credit card included a discount for the fee. We filled out the information, booked our face-to-face interviews at Toronto Pearson Airport, and received our cards in February 2020. Since then, we have enjoyed the short lines and easy entries!
Renewal Process
Renewing our Nexus cards in 2025 was easy to do. We filled out the renewal form and within two weeks we had been approved for another 5 years. Our new cards were mailed to us and we were able to use our old card until the new one arrived.
There are a few steps to getting your first card, but updating and renewing is easy. For example, when my husband needed to update his passport credentials, we simply dropped by the Nexus office on our way to a flight to update his information. The Nexus card is good for five years.
This was informative – you make the NEXUS card sound like a game-changer for travel between Canada and the USA! I’m curious, do you know if these cards offer any benefits for travel to other countries as well? By the way, if someone’s planning to travel further, checking out https://world-prices.com/en/usa/prices might give a general sense of prices in the USA. Not sure how up-to-date it always is, but it’s a starting point. Thanks for sharing your experience!
This is only available between Canada and USA and we find it saves time on land crossings.
