Go South to Pelee Island, Kingsville and Leamington!

If you would like a short drive trip in Ontario, then Southern Ontario is a great place to go, especially in the summer months. The southernmost point of Canada is located here! The ferries run daily to and from Leamington or Kingsville to Pelee Island.

Pelee Island

Birders love to travel to the island to see amazing migrations of birds and monarchs. We went for a long weekend in the summer and enjoyed the Pelee Island Winery and the ability to explore nature in our backyard. Many people enjoy cycling around the island too.
We enjoyed touring Pelee Island Winery and sampling the wine. We also enjoyed driving around the island to see the countryside, exploring what it must be like to be islanders and admiring sunsets at Point Pelee National Park.

Leamington, Kingsville and Amherstburg

Instead of staying on the island, we booked our accommodation in Leamington and enjoyed the nearby pubs and Mexican food there. We were impressed with the huge greenhouse structures that produce much of Ontario’s produce. We also took a side trip to visit the national historic site Fort Malden and the Amherstburg Freedom Museum. Both tours were informative, and we all learned a lot about the area’s history.

Where will you go for your next getaway? What is your favourite Ontario spot?
