We began our 16-night cruise on The #MSCSeaview from Rio de Janeiro at the end of March. MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) is an Italian cruise line. It’s not considered a luxury cruise line so we expected less customer service and more add-ons. Our balcony cabin was about half the cost of a typical cruise after booking with the discount travel agency Vacations To Go
The MSC Seaview
We embarked and settled into our cabin right away. If you carry your luggage on and off the ship, it means less waiting. This also makes disembarking very easy. The cabin was spacious and the balcony faced west so we enjoyed a few Atlantic Ocean sunsets.
The MSC Seaview was the largest cruise ship we’ve been on and was built in 2018. It can hold 6000 passengers!
Luckily for us, it was at 56% capacity with 3400 passengers. Repositioning cruises rarely sell out because they have longer itineraries and more sea days. Sometimes excursions are limited.
The cruise director spoke English, German, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese. There were very few English-only speakers on board. All the staff spoke English and many passengers could converse in two or three languages. Two-thirds of the ship were from South America since that was the embarkation port. There were only 47 passengers with Canadian passports. MSC celebrates their ability to provide cruise experiences in multiple languages. We enjoyed hearing multiple languages aboard. It was a much younger crowd than our last MSC trip.
We booked excursions through MSC and hoped they would be better than our last MSC cruise. They were much better organized than our last destinations in 2022! Tours in Brazil and the Canary Island tours were well organized and equipped with modern buses, and all of our guides spoke English well.
This was our second repositioning cruise. We crossed the equator and the Prime Meridian in our two-week travels.
Our first repositioning cruise was in 2022.
