We took a day trip out to the mountains from Santiago. We booked the trip through Viator. Viator is part of Trip Advisor and we rely on them to find tours when we are unfamiliar with the cities and/or languages. We have used them in many places. One of the best features of the tours are the skip the line options.
Our trip out to the Cajon (Canyon) de Maipo took us close to the Andes mountains. We saw glaciers and rivers. The Vulcan River is a chocolate brown colour and as it passes by the several volcanoes the heat destroys all things living, so it is called the Dead River. It’s used for recreational sports. The El Yeso- living river- is the drinking supply for Santiago and teems with life. It looks whiteish green because of its glacier beginnings. The two rivers travel down the mountain separately.
We enjoyed the beautiful mountains and glacier-fed waters at the reservoir. Finally, we sampled Chilean 🍫 and 🍷. It was a long bus day with windy roads so we enjoyed artisan pizza for dinner and had an early 🌙.

I took my first plane ride at 6 months of age and I have never looked back! I met my husband because of a travel photo. Together, we have travelled to 47 countries; some for a day and some for a couple of years! We love to share what we have learned along the way to make travel easier for those of us who are middle-aged with mid-range budgets.
